Bauta Browser Binary License
Last updated October 21, 2026
This license applies to the compiled Bauta Browser binaries (the browser, and the bauta command and its gateway) distributed by the operator of Bauta Browser ("Bauta", "we", "us", or "our") through official Bauta distribution channels.
It does not apply to the files in the public Bauta Browser repository, such as the installers, the persona format and examples, the plugin header and the Python and Node.js packages, which are licensed under the MIT License.
By downloading, installing, or using the binaries, you agree to be bound by the terms of this license.
Intellectual Property
The browser is built on Chromium, which is open-source software by The Chromium Authors under the BSD 3-Clause License, and its components remain under their own open-source licenses.
Bauta's build configuration, patches, compiled releases, and the binaries as distributed by Bauta are the proprietary property of Bauta. This license governs only the binaries as distributed by Bauta and does not restrict any rights granted by upstream open-source licenses to their respective components.
Grant of Use
You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use the binaries for personal, commercial, and internal business purposes, subject to the plans, restrictions, and other limitations in this license.
Plans and Sessions
The binaries run under a license key that sets how many sessions may run at once: without an account, one session per machine; with a free account, three sessions, or ten for the account's first thirty days where it qualifies; and more on a paid plan. Every plan has every feature. Current plans and prices are on our pricing page.
All terms, restrictions, and limitations in this license apply equally to every version of the binaries and every plan, whether free or paid.
Modifications to Pricing and Terms
We reserve the right to modify, add, rename, or discontinue features, pricing, usage limits, or other terms of any plan, whether now existing or introduced in the future, at any time, in our sole discretion.
Notice period. We will provide at least thirty (30) days' advance notice of any material price increase or reduction in features for active, paying subscribers, by email to the account's registered address and/or a notice on the account dashboard.
Effective date. Price and term changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle following the notice period. Changes do not apply retroactively to periods already paid for.
Your options. If you do not agree to a modified price or term, you may cancel your subscription before the change takes effect. Continued use of the binaries or the subscription after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new pricing and terms.
No refunds on cancellation. If you cancel mid-billing-cycle, whether in response to a pricing change or otherwise, no refund will be issued for the remaining, unused portion of that cycle, except as our Refund Policy or applicable law requires.
Non-material changes. Minor changes that do not increase price or materially reduce functionality, including user interface updates, non-breaking changes to the command line or the gateway, and documentation updates, may be made without advance notice.
License Keys and Subscription Access
Any license key, account access, or subscription entitlement provided by Bauta may be used only by the person or organization to whom it was issued and only within the applicable plan.
You may not share, sell, lease, transfer, publish, or otherwise make available any license key, account access, or subscription entitlement to any third party, or use it to circumvent license validation, session limits, or plan requirements, and we may immediately suspend or revoke access for any violation.
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to refuse to issue a license key, deny or suspend access, revoke or deactivate any license key or subscription entitlement, or decline to provide the binaries to any person or entity, at any time and without prior notice.
All license keys, plans, and usage allowances are subject to fair and reasonable use consistent with their intended purpose. We reserve the right to review, limit, throttle, or restrict usage patterns that are abusive, disproportionate, or inconsistent with normal use of the applicable plan, even where such usage remains within stated session limits.
You may not register or use multiple accounts to obtain more than one free trial or free plan.
Restrictions
You may not:
- redistribute the binaries, in whole or in part, whether modified or unmodified;
- resell, sublicense, or repackage the binaries, or include them in any product or service distributed to third parties, except under a separate license;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the binaries, or attempt to derive source code from them, except to the extent applicable law permits despite this restriction;
- modify the binaries or create derivative works based on them;
- remove, disable, or circumvent the binaries' license checks, session limits, or signature verification, or publish or distribute anything made to do so;
- remove or alter any copyright notices, license files, or attribution included with the binaries.
Normal use of the binaries with command-line flags, personas, plugins, extensions, profiles, or user data directories does not constitute modification or creation of derivative works.
Copies of the binaries, or tools, published in breach of these terms will be taken down, including by notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act and its equivalents.
Cloud, Container, OEM/SaaS License and Integration Use
Using Bauta Browser for your own internal browsing, web scraping, data extraction, automation, research, or business workflows does not require an OEM/SaaS license, regardless of company size or revenue, as long as you control the browsing process and do not give third parties control over the browser itself.
Internal use. You may store and run the unmodified binaries within your internal infrastructure, including Docker images, CI runners, and internal artifact repositories, solely for your organization's internal operational purposes, such as web scraping, data extraction, research, and similar workflows performed for your own business.
A third-party customer may request a business deliverable, such as a report, dataset, or analysis, and the use may still be internal use if your organization controls the browsing process, the execution environment, and the method of performing the work.
Paid plans. No plan, whatever its name, grants redistribution, resale, sublicensing, bundling, embedding, hosted-service, white-label, OEM, or SaaS rights unless expressly stated in a separate agreement.
Dependency listing. Listing Bauta Browser or the bautabrowser packages as a dependency of your project, in package files, build scripts, or documentation, does not constitute redistribution, as the binaries are downloaded from official Bauta channels. No separate license is required for this.
OEM/SaaS license required. Except for internal use as described above, a separate OEM/SaaS license is required when the binaries are bundled, embedded, exposed through an API, or used to provide browser functionality to third-party customers, including as part of a product, hosted service, browser-as-a-service offering, or customer-facing workflow. One is also required if third-party customers are given technical access to, or control over, the browser itself: the ability to operate, configure, manage, or influence the binaries, their browsing sessions, or their execution settings. Requests for specific data, targets, reports, or other business outputs do not constitute control if you retain full authority over how the browsing is done.
Running the binaries on your own infrastructure does not make a use internal if they are used to provide browser functionality, hosted browser execution, browser capacity, or customer-controlled browser workflows to third-party customers.
Contact support@bauta.dev for OEM/SaaS licensing.
Official Distribution
The binaries must originally be obtained from official Bauta distribution channels: the GitHub Releases of github.com/BautaBrowser/bauta-browser, the bautabrowser packages on PyPI and npm, the ghcr.io/bautabrowser/bauta container image, and the installers at bauta.dev/install.sh and bauta.dev/install.ps1. Internal organizational mirrors permitted under the section above are not considered unauthorized sources.
Trademark Notice
This license does not grant you any right to use the Bauta or Bauta Browser name, logo, or trademarks, except for nominative use reasonably necessary to refer to Bauta or Bauta Browser.
Attribution
Attribution is appreciated but not required. A "Powered by Bauta Browser" notice with a link to bauta.dev in your documentation, README, or about page is welcome.
Acceptable Use
You are solely responsible for how you use the binaries, including any harm, loss, or damage caused to any third party arising from your use of them. You agree not to use the binaries for any activity that violates applicable laws or regulations, or our Acceptable Use Policy. Bauta does not endorse, encourage, or support any illegal use.
Without limiting the above, the following uses are expressly prohibited:
- unauthorized access to financial, banking, healthcare, or government authentication systems;
- credential stuffing, brute-force login attempts, or automated account creation;
- circumventing authentication on systems you do not own or have authorization to test;
- any activity that constitutes fraud, identity theft, or unauthorized data collection.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bauta, its contributors, officers, employees, affiliates, licensors, authors, and copyright holders from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the binaries, your violation of this license, or your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights.
Disclaimer
THE BINARIES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL BAUTA, ITS CONTRIBUTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, AUTHORS, OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, LOSSES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE BINARIES, THEIR USE, OR ANY OTHER DEALINGS WITH THE BINARIES.
Limitation of Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL BAUTA, ITS CONTRIBUTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, AUTHORS, OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, GOODWILL, OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE BINARIES, THEIR USE, OR ANY OTHER DEALINGS WITH THE BINARIES, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY.
BAUTA'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE LESSER OF ONE HUNDRED FIFTY US DOLLARS (US $150) OR THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU TO BAUTA FOR THE BINARIES DURING THE THREE (3) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
Data Collection
The browser sends nothing to our servers. Only the bauta command and its gateway do, for license validation and to count the sessions running at once, as our Privacy Policy describes. No telemetry, analytics, or tracking of the pages you visit, their URLs or contents, your proxies, or your personas is included.
Other network activity may result from normal browser operation, Chromium subsystems, your configuration, extensions, or the web pages and services you access, and not from any telemetry or analytics service operated by Bauta.
Updates
Bauta may provide updates, patches, new versions, or support for the binaries at its discretion. Any updates provided are subject to this license unless Bauta states otherwise.
Termination
This license terminates automatically if you violate any of its terms. Upon termination, you must stop using the binaries and destroy all copies of them in your possession or control. The Intellectual Property, Restrictions, Trademark Notice, Acceptable Use, Indemnification, Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, Governing Law, Reservation of Rights, Entire Agreement, No Waiver, Assignment, and Severability sections survive termination.
Bauta may also suspend your access to the binaries, pending investigation and without prior notice, where it suspects unusual or unlawful use, suspicious account or license activity, or activity that may damage, disrupt, or compromise its servers or infrastructure.
Governing Law
This license is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of Bauta Browser, or its applicable legal entity or successor, is established. Any disputes arising under or relating to this license shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in that jurisdiction.
Reservation of Rights
All rights not expressly granted under this license are reserved by Bauta.
Entire Agreement
This license, together with our Terms of Service, constitutes the entire agreement between you and Bauta regarding the binaries; in the event of a conflict regarding the binaries themselves, this license controls.
No Waiver
Failure by Bauta to enforce any provision of this license does not constitute a waiver of that provision or any other provision.
Assignment
You may not assign or transfer this license or any rights under it without prior written consent from Bauta.
Severability
If any provision of this license is held to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and all remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
Modifications to This License
Bauta may update or modify this license from time to time. Material changes will be communicated as the Modifications to Pricing and Terms section above describes, where applicable, or by a notice on official Bauta distribution channels. Continued use of the binaries after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the updated license.
